You will never get those tall valve covers off with that little clearance. I couldn't get mine on, ended up notching the firewall, you can see it at bottom left of picture. Both sides are notched now. With stock v/c's they clear fine.

move the engine forward, it'll be worth the time cause when you need to work on the hei for any reason you'll have the room. and you won't have to hammer the fire wall. if you need to change your driveline, just measure center of cup to cup and find one at the wrecking yard. my driveline is out of a dodge and it works well. here's acouple of pics with space you get when moving the engine forward..
