Homemade silencer
Was wondering if anybody had some ideas about making a baffle/silencer out of a large ovel tip exhaust end. I am having my exhaust exit through the body infront of the rear tires. I am concerned about how loud it will be so I ordered the longest magnaflow muffler that could fit (more packing less sound). I am using these SS Large oval tips and it looks like they might be loud and resonate. I was thing about just putting a piece of 2 1/2" pipe, which is the same diameter as the tip, and making a bunch of holes in it and packing it with fiberglass. Do you think this will make ANY kind of sound difference? Does anybody know what fiberglass material or steel wool to use for this high heat application? Should I make a bunch of large holes @ 3/8" or allot of smaller holes @ 1/8" ? Thanks for any info or comments.

Re: Homemade silencer
Just use a muffler to get the level of sound you want. Why go through the trouble you have for asthetics just to have the tip look silly?

Re: Homemade silencer
Put the mufflers on first before you go modding anything else, I am not sure how much room you will have but usage of an H-Pipe of X-pipe will also help tone it down a little and as well get a little more power out of it.

Re: Homemade silencer
I will of course try the tips without any modifications to it and I do have an x-pipe on it. I am waiting for the mufflers to come in. I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with doing this type of thing and if it made a difference in toneing down the sound.
