4.3 v6 ?
Did any of the early 4.3s come in a non-computer controlled configuration? I know some of the ones from ~1985 found in the trucks/astro vans were carbeurated, but did they have any sort of ECM? I'm looking to do a swap into an early 1st gen s10 which has no provisions for an ecm (my 2.8 is dying, partially spun bearing thanks to AAA roadside), and I'd get rid of the truck before using a v8. (another 2.8 is out of the questions, too much $$$ for a high-mile failure prone used engine) I was wondering what it'd take to adapt a 4.3 to use the early carbed induction system assuming there was a version that also used no ECM

Re: 4.3 v6 ?
You can find all the parts you need for a non CC 4.3L. They made a factory version of it like you mentioned. There are a quite a few upgrades for them as well. But why not do a nearly direct 3.4L swap? The 3.4 doesent have as much power as the 4.3 but the trans will bolt right up and all parts interchange.

Re: 4.3 v6 ?
I've looked into the 3.4 swap, but the only 3.4 thats a reasonably straight forward swap over is the crate HT 3.4 which all the dealerships I've called wanted big $$$ for, cheapest quote I got was $2200, and I still need to order a new flywheel, starter, fuel pump to do it on top of that. I think it'd be cheaper to do the 4.3, even with the additional cost of buying the 90* bellhousing transmission to swap in...

Re: 4.3 v6 ?
My 85 used to have the V6. It was not really a computer like most people think of one. It was just a spark control module that is very easy to bypass. I would not let that stand in your way. I've got the old distributor that has the modified harness to bypass the ESC, plus I added an adjustable vac advance if you need it....
