Re: gas mileage question

I say 10 to 12 MPG.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=172346
That's what most ppl get in these trucks regardless of the combo.

Re: gas mileage question

well, as for the right foot, it is about a size 16. as for the tranny it is a 4 speed automatic and the motor has fuel injection. It has a 2 in lift also.

Re: gas mileage question

There are way too many variable for an accurate answer, but Andy's probably pretty close. You live in flat country, and that helps some. Headwinds, higher speeds, driving styles etc all affect mpg.

Re: gas mileage question

Hehe. There another side to the story. The carb is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY WAYYYYYY too rich. Dumps more fuel out of the exhaust than the engine burns.

If I get a new carb, and I'd probably be up with you guys at 12mpg or so.

Heck, my V-6 gets way better than my Big Block, and gets just a tad less than the 350 I had in my other truck................BUT, it makes more useable power than either of them. Around 14 or so.....Goes down quickly when (Over)Loaded.

15-16 with the 350/3spd

454/4spd 10 at best, and its a true turd for the amount of fuel it uses..........If it didn't have 4x4, I'd honestly unload it. Sure makes me want to get the Cummins truck done, I can do better than triple what the 454 gets and have LOADS more power for running loaded.

Gulp, Gulp, Gulp, With gas shooting back over 2.5/gallon that carb would pay for itself in no time.

Re: gas mileage question

You should be able to get around 15 if it's set up right. So much depends on cam, carb and ignition combo.

Jake, I used to get 10 mpg out of 2 tons with the 351. In the 5 ton with the 478 I got around 5. Sounds like someone could hook up to your exhaust and use your wasted fuel to power another truck.

REALLY???????? And thats in a one ton, too. Is that just cruising around town, or back road expiditions? Suppose I could get that in a 4x4?

Fred, your right. You could almost put a bucket underneath the pipes and get fuel. Now you and TP have me wondering about my fuel mileage.

1/2, 3/4, or 1-ton, I honestly don't think it makes too much of a difference............They scale to close to make a huge difference. I don't cruise around town to begin with, and if I did I definitely wouldn't do it in a rough riding truck.........That fuel figure is for township roads, and state roads, 45 mph and under. Running light...........Of-course, I only used it like that a few times while we had the C-10 down for oil pan gasket.........Now, I don't get it out unless I am running loaded. And with our hills and the weight I load to, it does drop off quickly............Lugging it in 3rd gear consumes alot of fuel. A super hard pull I maybe way down in 2nd............So I honestly don't see that good of mileage with it anymore. Sounds to me like you need to work the Stromberg over, or learn how to drive it right.

Re: gas mileage question

Ditch the Stromjunk and put on a Holley 500 is what I'm going to do. Stromberg sticks sometimes at idle. Sometimes it's 400 rpm, other times 1000,other times 600.
I do lug it in third a lot. Thats WAY too much fun, especially when you can floor it and it will take off quickly. Thanks for the info.

Re: gas mileage question

by 4 speed auto I'm assuming a 7 or 200R4 or a 4L60E. Those are some tall rear end gears. I run a 350 with 700R4 3.73 rear end and I've gotten around 13 city and 16 highway. With your lift I'd expect more like 11-12 city and 13-14 hwy.
