Bumper repair

My front bumper has two dents in the front. There not real noticeable but I was wondering if there was anything I can do to fix them? Has anyone repaired dents in a bumper before? I can get it rechromed real cheap but was wondering if it would be better to just replace it?

Re: Bumper repair

You will probably get a far better chrome job with one of the new triple plated replacements. To have anything chromed it has to be blasted, smoothed and polished before the plating process begins. A lot of labor is involved in a good chrome job. The new ones have all that done on machines in a production line.

Re: Bumper repair

That, and the dents need a "real" metal worker to get them out.I`ve always looked at damage(no matter how small)and said,"Dang, need a new bumper."

Re: Bumper repair

#1: How much is your chromer gonna charge you for this. I am betting at least $150?

I looked at a brand new repop that was only $159
http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/0019.html

I have the front from my 71 that the PO tried to shave the turn signals out of and hide the bumper bolts. Didn't do a sweet job on it. I may go with the 67-70 front bumper and then hide the bolts. Or not.

I hear ya then. Get a big hammer and beat that thing out some then have them finish it off or something and dip it.

Re: Bumper repair

It is pretty thick so you may have to beat on it pretty hard to knock some of it out. Not real sure but if you can get it close maybe they can fill it in the copper process as they do with pits inthe metal.

Re: Bumper repair

Your bumper looks real bad in those pics, is toast, replace it you can't beat a new one for around 100 bucks.

remove the bumper....flip up side down. lay damaged end on wet wood (soaked for at least 3 hrs) pound it out /w/ rubber mallet....check flip side constantly.

Do you recomend heating it with a torch or should I forget about trying that?
