Hey all,
I recently replaced the rear brake shoes on my 1990 Burb. I cleaned everything with brake cleaner then installed the new pads. I adjusted the pads as per the manual and I now have the drivers side heating up quite a bit when I drive it. I believe the problem is with the wheel cylinder even though it isnt leaking. Anybody have any ideas ???

i just spent $500 on new axle seals (as mine is 3/4ton), cylinder and brake job.. the cylinder still leaks usually after fresh brakes on most chevys, especially with more than 50K miles....

sounds as if maybe it needs backed out some more as it may be making contact with the drum a little which creates tremendous heat but thats what Id check first

500 for seals !!! Yikes!! I am glad I only have a 1/2 ton. The passenger side seal was leaking when I bought it but I pulled the axle and put a new one in.
My burb has 120,000 on it right now. I love the thing it goes anywhere and it keeps my sons from fighting due to the cabin space. I am going to pull the tire tommorrow and back of the self adjuster more, if that doesnt work I'll replace the wheel cylinder. I hate having to pull the tire but the backplates dont have the cut outs for the adjusting tool. Thanks for the info fellas !!!

Wheel cylinders are fairly cheap anyhow, but as Doc mentioned, make sure it's adjusted correctly. Also check the parking brake to make sure it's not stuck, and make sure you clean up and grease the contact points on the backing plates where the shoes contact them.
