Yet another dumb Question (maybe)

A lady I work with bought one of my old 71's (really bad shape) just for tooling around on the farm in. It sounds like the heater core is leaking. She has steam and that all-to-familiar sickly-sweet smell of antifreeze coming from the defrost vents. She doesnt want to buy another heater core at this time. Cant I just drain the heater core and remove the hoses and block the connections on the water pump (thats the dumb question)? Thx

Re: Yet another dumb Question (maybe)

This is easier to do here... just loop the hose from one to the other. No screwing around with fittings, forgetting where they went, what location each one went to.....all that crap.

Re: Yet another dumb Question (maybe)

My vote is plug em......that spot on my intake is for the control on the Painless setup for my dual elect fans. IMHO,it cleaner with 1 or 2 less hoses, & it wont hurt a thing......when you go to reinstall the heater, you may need to look at your buds truck tho....(memory, the thing I miss the mostest ) crazyL

Re: Yet another dumb Question (maybe)

Must not get cold in Texas often in the winter..............Because the '69 C-10 that was our Farm Truck was very rusty but trusty and dependable........Only ever did two things to it, #1 Oil pan gasket on the 250 Inliner #2 Heater Core..........It started leaking and I know I didn't want to go to the barn in a cold fogged up truck every day when it was 10 degrees out It started leaking one day in the winter, high was about 5 degrees......Went to parts store and got a new one for $20, popped it in late that afternoon in the cold with the help of my brother and the neighbor kid............And let me tell you, we left that truck run while we did the chores at the barn(Hour), and when we jumped in it to come home, We warmed up quick with that new heater core and cardboard over the radiator

Ah, the good old days!!!!
