Rear diff oil in wheel hub!
Hi guys/gals:
Well, I was getting ready to do front disc/front end upgrade. I also wanted to freshen up my rear brakes since I don't think anybody touch them for long long time. Anywasy, when I took my right rear wheel out, rear diff oil poured out from wheel hub. What does that mean?Is there any seal or something? Thanks.

Rear axle seals. Auto part stores usally have them. Careful putting them in..I use a wood block with a hammer to install.

Re: Rear diff oil in wheel hub!
I don't remember if there were any issues when i replaced mine last year, I know I had LOTS of issues getting brake parts, but the seals were pretty easy if I remember right.
I used NAPA, and honestly, wouldn't trust anyone else (as far as parts stores...not talkin resto vendors here) with parts this difficult. |

Is it difficult to pull out the seals?

Re: Rear diff oil in wheel hub!
If you pulled out the axle shaft and gear oil came out, that is normal. On a full floating axle, the wheel bearings are lubed by the gear oil.

Well, mine is a one ton, HO72 instead of the HO52... EVERYTHING was hard to find on mine.

Re: Rear diff oil in wheel hub!
Yeah, what exactly did you mean when you said, "I took my right rear wheel out?"
And, did any gear oil get on the brake shoes?
