Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
The other day I sat down, and compared the same part list between 2 diffrent companies, and ended up with a substanial diffrence,
1 catalog was LMC, the other was Truck Shop out of orange Calif, the list I had was for a complete restore on my 72, and Truck Shop came to 5,500, and LMC was over 7,000, for the same list, so my question is, has anyone dealt with both companies, and is there any diffrence in quality between the 2, I dont mind paying a lil more for better quality parts, but when it amounts to 2,000 more, you have to wonder why the big difference, I did the same comparison for parts for my 71, and it was about a 750 difference,

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
Yes,dealt with both. The Truck Shop (obviously) gives better deals.Catch them at a show and really get a deal.I got two reproduction doors for $400!The Truck Shop is Counterpart.A company that produces parts.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
I agree with specialK. The truck shop had lower prices on their fenders at a show compared to their catalog and I got them to come down from that price.

I tried to order from truck shop, but they would not ship to my work. Told me "tough". I went elsewhere and never went back.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
LMC is overpriced, and under educated. I have never gotten an order 100% correct from them.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
I have been using Classic Industries and the Truck shop to buy my truck parts. I just ordered some parts from Paul's and wished that I would have found them earlier because their customer service was outstanding. I ordered from classic industries and truck shop last thursday. Monday I got most of my parts from classic industries and I'm still waiting for parts from the truck shop. I called them today and they said that delivery should be today.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
I bought my whole front clip for my 69 chev from the truck shop. I went there and paid cash. They had the best price and they did not charge sales tax when I paid cash.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
don't think lmc parts are better than others, that's far from true. infact most retailers and vendors get repro parts from the same people.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
I've never purchased from LMC but I have purchased from the Truck Shop. They do give great deals a the shows, I purchased a GM window regulator for $25.00 and a cowl hood for $350.00 and no sales tax at the Pamona swap meet.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
Spent lots of $ with the Truck Shop. Great Prices, no problems. Ditto on buying at the shows. I catch them at Carlisle for the stuff I don't want shipped. If you order more than $250 they do usually eat the freight.

I have never purchased from the truck shop but have from LMC. I will not be buying from LMC again. The prices are higher and the service was horrible.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
I will give you guys a example tomorrow as I am going to the Pleasanton swap meet to get a few things from the truck shop who will be there. I will list the catalog price and the actual price I paid at the swap meet. If you need small things that don't take oversized shipping if you buy over $250 the shipping is FREE at the truck shop.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
Yeah,if you`re going BIG,then The Truck Shop is better than LMC.Actually,no comparison in my book. The money you save ads up and on a BIG scale,it shows. And,who cares if they come off as arrogant fill-in-the-blanks.I,m not looking for a friend at a swap meet, just parts.Although,I always try to get a phone# from a Bud Girl.
On the other hand,I prefer dealing with small businesses and appreciate the friendly personal touch. These guys can`t usually beat the BIG guy`s price(except LMC),but you really don`t feel the difference unless you`re buying parts by the truckload.I`ve also dealt with smalltime fill-in-the-blanks and would never deal with them again, such as Wentz Truck Parts.Tommy Wentz is a drunken lyin` as_ho...I mean,fill-in-the blanks. Anyway, now that I`m onto this sight,I would give the guys that support it first crack at my money when I`m ordering from home or at a swap meet they`re at.And,I say this after dealing with and knowing personnaly the founding fathers of the GM truck parts secondary and reproduction market. Some of them are still small, some got all huge and sold out(GSPP).To me,anyone that wasn`t in the business before the mid-80s is new.

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
When the truck shop was at pamona, their prices where 10% lower than their shop prices. However, when I went there with my long shopping list. Most of the big dollar stuff I was looking for, they didn't have there. I had to go to the shop and buy it at regular price.
Depending on the type of restoration you are doing. Classic Industries carries OER products. The truck shop is just reproduction products. Shopping at these places is just like shopping for anything else. You will find better prices on some things but pay more for others. Thats why I shop around and find the best deals from every company. Have you checked out GMC Paul's for parts availabilty and prices?? I ordered door seals from them last week. I wish that I looked at their stuff earlier because their customer service is great. |

Re: Price differences between 2 diffrent catalogs
Chevyboy55 the link you gave is not working. Well guys today was abit wet at Pleasanton. The Truckstop guys didn't bring much becouse of the weather. Although I got a fleetside bumper,2 (72) black arm rests,a chrome ashtray,a cigrette lighter and 2 (72) front turn signal lenses all for about $120 The will be there in June with the big truck and lots of sheet metal. Still have a great time going to these swaps with and the parts and hotrods for sale!
