What oil should i use??
as many of you know... i got a 1973 chevrolet C20 lwb with a 350/350 from my grandpa... it needs a tune up and i was wondering what oil you guys would suggest.... i was told not to change different types of oil or it will mess it up... but my grandpa has used all kinda oil in this thing (btw only 91k orignal miles and still runs gr8) i was told if i went from regular to synthetic i can wash out rings or something if hes never used synthetic before or something like that, is that true? i am trying to find a good answer here please help out on what type and brand etc i should use...

Using synthetic will not wash out anything except for the sludge years of dino juice has allowed to build up inside the engine. I would start with a non agressive flush similiar to ATF or you can use ATF. Add a quart of this flush or ATF (Not the diesel fuel type!) and run it for 20 minutes then drain the oil and replace the filter. This will remove the light deposits. Then fill it with the synthetic of your choice remembering only one brand you can buy at national chain stores is 100% synthetic (Mobile1). You will have to moniter the oil for a while since the syn will start to remove more deposits as the engine runs. You may want to change the oil filter and add a quart of fresh oil between oil changes until the oil starts to stay cleaner longer. The synthetic oil will continue to clean all the engine gunk until it's gone so for a few oil changes the oil will get dark very quick. Also you will need to keep an eye out for oil leaks that are bound to pop up once the crud has been cleaned from the seals.
