Re: others??? easy stearing??

Sounds like the pressure regulating spring has gotten weak or even broke in your pump.
Where the high pressure line goes into the back of the pump, there is a hex fitting that screws into the pump body it's self. Unscrew that, and replace the spring in there.

Re: others??? easy stearing??

these trucks are a ton easier to steer than about anything else.they are naturally a little more loose but it still shouldnt throw it from lock to lock.

Re: others??? easy steering??

mine is really easy to turn too, I do have the close ratio box and a 13 inch steering wheel, its not a big deal to me, just have to be careful when driving not to twitch to much or have your hand on the wheel when ya sneeze, it will put ya across two lanes of traffic before ya can blink

Re: others??? easy steering??

Mine's been in the family since 86. It's always had 15x10s with 275/60s up front and its always turned really easy. I changed the pressure relief once didnt do much.

Re: others??? easy steering??

I have had several trucks with the "extra easy" power steering. Not sure why some are like that and some are not though??

Re: others??? easy steering??

Chevy was very proud of this. If you read some of the advertisements of the day you will find that Chevy claims easy steering with only 1-1/2 pounds of force required. This was the beginning of a more car like truck.
There is nothing wrong with your steering.

Re: others??? easy steering??

mine is easy as well. I like it that way. a toothpick can spin the 255's around real smooth. I think it has to do with the geometry.
