'68 clean-up and rebuild..UPDATE!!

The cam on my wife's '68 lost a couple lobes so she pulled the engine for me to work on. Found sloppy cylinders, wore out heads, scarred up crank, worn out bearings, etc. Time for a rebuild!! While the engine is out we decided now is a good time for some clean-up. I will post pics as we progress through this little project. The last pic is our 8 year old son having some fun while we were working on the truck.

Looks like you got alot of cleaning up to do, good luck with it. It also looks like a Trans Am covered up in the background also in the pic of your son, what's the story on that one?

Re: '68 clean-up and rebuild

That is my 1983 MR MSE Trans Am #53 of 150. It has been parked for the winter. I bought it off the internet about 2 years ago in California. Then drove it home to Arkansas and gave it a repaint. It's original with 75,000 miles but it had sat out in the Cali. sun its whole life and the paint was just ruined. Here's a pic of it.

And the one in that background is a 1983 Daytona 500 pace car. It's one of 2500 pace cars built. But, only one of 153 hardtops ordered, and nobody seems to know how many of those were actually built. It needs a total restoration. I love the early third gens!

Great looking car! It's nice to see a fellow thirdgenner on the board! My first car was an 86 Firebird with the same 2-tone paint scheme. Even on the non Meecham cars, it was a very rare paint option.

Re: '68 clean-up and rebuild

Well the heads needed a lot of work. Which is fine I guess cause I decided not to use them. Got some more getting checked out right now with 58cc chambers, the others were 76cc. The block bored .040 over and the crank turned .010/.010. Got the rest of the parts in for it today. Now I can send the new pistons to the machine shop to be put on the rods. Here's what the big brown truck brought today!

Myself, where in AR are you at? I lived in Jonesboro a couple years. Hope the engine build goes well.
