2 ???'s about lockouts????

First of all I got a dana 44 with newer WARN lockout hubs one it, how the heck do you get the inner hub guts out? I can't see a snap ring on outer lip like original hubs.
Next what are these worth? Original, blue knobs are faded but not chewed up. Outer rings are pretty good couple small scars on them.
Thanks Randy

Re: 2 ???'s about lockouts????

Hey Randy, the snap ring should be in there, but the inner hub sticks out past it. Usually I have to use 2 picks to get it out. The newer Warn's are a pain in the butt compaired to the older ones...

Re: 2 ???'s about lockouts????

I personally can't stand Warn hubs. My 86 has Warn's on it only until I can get around to putting a set of Spicers on it...

take two of the allen head screws that hold the outer section on and screw them into the gear. put them opposite of each other and use them as handles to gently pull out on the gear. It should slide right off the end of the axle shaft as long as both snap rings are out.

Re: 2 ???'s about lockouts????

Now that I think about it I had a problem on one side when I took my Spicers off. Even with the scews in the gear to pull on one side would not slide over the end of the axle shaft. Turns out the snap ring had been missing from the end of the axle shaft for some time. The gear had slid in and out causing the very end of the splines on the shaft to burr. The burr was on the outside lip of the snap ring groove on each spline. I had to sit with a little file and smooth out each spline enough to allow the gear to slide over it. What a pain.
