Just got a 69 C20...got questions

Just got this beauty and I was wondering a few things. Anyone go from the 8 lug hubs on the 3/4 to 6 Lugs? The reason I ask is I have alot more options for disk brakes if I go to six lug hubs. Do they make a kit? Do they have a website?

Also I was wanting to get some opinions on which type of power brake set up to use. I think I would rather go with a hydro-boost versus a vacuum booster. I have never owned anything with non power brakes but I would imagine that the old lines woould need to be changed to support higher fluid pressures.

One more thing, anyone know if they make an abs kit for these trucks???

There is a lot I plan on doing but I would like to start with the brakes first.

Here is some pictures for your viewing pleasure. Thanks

Josh

8 lug front disc brakes are very common and easy to do, and you can keep your rearend 8 lug for matching bolt patterns.

All GM trucks from 71 and up came stock with disc brakes. You can swap the brakes onto your truck in several different ways. It's an easy deal, very doable in a weekend. Find a later model 3/4 ton with discs in a junkyard or on the parts board.

Welcome to the board!! That's a clean looking truck! My 71 has the dana 44 front with discs and they are plentiful. No idea on the abs tho.

Re: Just got a 69 C20...got questions

I recently finished a Disk-front Dana 44 upgrade, power steering and added a power brake booster to my 67 K20. It was pretty easy. I used a D44 from a 75' GM truck and it was a direct bolt in. I now have a sharper turning radius and can hit my nose to the steering wheel in a panic stop. I'm running Warn Premium hubs now rather than the old spicers which are hard to get parts for, but it looks like you already have those installed.
No more leaking knuckle seals to worry about either.

Parts needed:

Power brake booster/mount/pedal rod

Master cly that matches the booster (Delco-Moraine or Bendix)
They need to be matched

Disk/Drum brake p-block

Front brake lines (smaller than the stock drum brake lines for the increased pressure)

8-Lug D-44 w/ disks

Lotsa brake fluid

Time & space to do it. Clean truck you have there, good luck!
