Blower motor cover removal

Lately the heater blower motor on my 94 has been squealing, and decides to work when it wants to, so i went out and bought a new one. I figured it shouldn't be a hard fix, just pull the old one out and put the new one in. Well i ran into a snag when i tried to take the flexible black plastic cover thing off. I can see 2 screws that are holding me up, and was able to get one out, but the other one seems to be impossible to get at. Do i have to take the entire dash out to get at it. My haynes manual said to take out the ECM, and place it on an antistatic mat and make sure your grounded, etc.., it all seemed like a whole lot of trouble for a blower motor. Has anyone done this before, and knows how to get that cover off without tearing completely into the interior (and brain) of my truck?

Re: Blower motor cover removal

There are 4 screws in the glove box that will take out the insert. After you take it out you can unplug the ECM and it will slide out of the way. You will need a right angle driver to get to a few screws. The screws are 7mm. There are four screws in the top of the ecm holder and 2 in the front. This will get you access to remove the sheild on the motor. The motor is a tight fit with the cage on it but will come out without damage. Assembly is the reverse. Takes at the longest 1 hr. Btw you can probably do it without taking out the ecm and the above directions BUT I wouldnt as you will loose the cover if your tear it.
