5 speed manual tough to shift

hello all been brousing the site and what a good one indeed! i have a 95 GMC 1/2 ton with a 305 and a 5 speed manual, as of lately it has been very hard to shift, especially when it's cold. it won't go into first gear from any other gear unless you come to a comlpete stop and when it's cold you can feel the gears meshing when up shifting. i talked to the owner of the local transmission shop and he said that he dosen't mess arround rebuilding this particular trans.....long story he also said he has put in 3 diffrent after market brand transmissions and all 3 of them came back so he will only install a GM trans. i guess i am looking for the cheapest fix here, anybody got any suggestions? i wouldn't be afraid to swap out the manual for a auto if it would be cheaper, i am a fabricator by trade and could make mounts, linkage and a floor mounted gear selector. i could even shorten the driveshaft and get it balanced. my only question is would i run into computer problems if i swaped a manual for an auto? or would it be better to stick with a manual.....rebuild.....or new? thanks for your help!

Re: 5 speed manual tough to shift

go with a t56. That would be awesome, but I'd get another manual or build that one

Re: 5 speed manual tough to shift

Go to another trans shop, it's obvious that that tech does'nt want to be bothered by rebuilding the trans. There is nothing wrong with your trans that a little tender loving care from a knowledgable technician can't fix. I've rebuilt my '92 getrag 5-speed and there was nothing to it if you have half a brain and can read a manual. Find a good shop in your area and let them bring your trans back to life.
