Usually when you have 2 seeming unrelated issues electrically like that, it's from a bad connection. Either grounds or positive juctions. It's a good idea to check all the grounds.

If you have the Vortec engine, check the intake plenum carefully for cracks or loose or missing screws.

Next check your coolant level in both the resevoir and the radiator. Vortecs are notorious for leaking intake gaskets. I just did my second set since I bought it in 99.

Consider a complete ignition tune up. While your there pull the distributor and check it carefully.
