Need help with gas gauge problem
Finally got my 76 on the road and first thing I do is get gas. It's been sitting for about 6 months. I would start it up and move it every once in awhile. Gas gauge worked fine when I drove it home. It has dual tanks.
Now the gauge isn't moving. Put gas in both tanks and neither one moves the gauge. I switch back and forth between tanks and no gauge movement. I figure it most likely isn't a float, one I could see but not both. Switch may not be working, or gauge could be shot. Any suggestions on how I can trouble shoot this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: Need help with gas gauge problem
Take a OHM meter to the clips that connect to the back of the fuel gauge itself. It should read somewhere between 0-90 OHM. If not then it's not the guage but a wiring issue between there. Like 86 GMG mentioned if you can hear the switch click under the passenger side of the truck near the cab then that it okay. You might also check the fuses for the gauges. I've shorted out before and it came back to there.

Re: Need help with gas gauge problem
Thanks guys, I checked the fuses first thing and will see if the switch is working.
Can anyone tell me what's involved with replacing the fuel gauge? |

Re: Need help with gas gauge problem
Take the bezel off, then the plastic lens. Next the screws that hold it in place then the gauge itself. It's held in with the screws and clips that are the contacts for it.

Thanks 79big10! Sounds like it's pretty easy, which would be a nice change.

Re: Need help with gas gauge problem
I have an extra guage out of my son's 83. I can't sell or buy anything yet. I need to subscribe first. Keep me in mind and as soon as I subscribe, we can talk.
