I'm in trouble with the wife

I bought a 70 Jimmy without telling her. OOPS! Well we've been married 27 years and we'll survive it.

The real question I have is about swapping front suspensions. Would the crossmember from a 2wd bolt right on? I have a lowered 67 with disc brakes, etc... What about the lowered coils on the rear? Would I be better off using the leaf springs and lowering them?

The front will bolt up but you have I belive one hole on each side you will need to drill. The rear is different at the axel location, leaf spring rears are strait and coil rears have a small bend the the frame right above the axel. What you can do is use the trailing arm cross member and arms then just mount coilovers/ bags behind the axel on the out side of the frame or build new mounts in front of the axel in the stockish location. I have a guy right now who wants the total rear suspention I am removing from a customers 2wd blazer (cross member, axel, arms,coils, panard bar) to convert a 4wd to 2wd. I just have not decided what it is worth so my customer gets the most out of it while still being fair to all.

Looks good! Now what I want to know with snow still on the ground how could you even tell you were getting the cold shoulder from the wife. What did she trap you in a corner and force you to listen!

Actually you will have to drill about 2 dozen holes.. both for the 2WD front crossmember and Trans crossmember (I have done a half dozen
4X4 to 2WD Blazer/Jimmy conversions in the last 20 years or so) There is a lot more work involved if you want the coil spring rear.. I opted to use the leaf springs and put the rear axle on top of the springs.. It worked perfect for the ride height I was wanting.. There could be more front frame horn mods depending on your ride height...

You are right I was half asleep when I saw this and was thinking of the 73 and up 2wd cross members in the 72 and down frames I have done

It has has been in the 60's and 70's here. Colder this weekend, but it won't last. She calmed down and it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I have promised not to play around on ebay for a while.

It sounds like it may be easier to take 11 inches out of my short stepside frame than transfer the suspension.

If after 27 years of marriage, mine hasn't killed me yet...I may do the same kind of thing cause I won't get that medal I shoulda recieved for lasting 27 years on the front line...

Went to pick up the Jimmy today. Good and bad news.

The Bad:
Alot more rust than I was led to believe
It leaked oil all over the driveway when I got home.

The Good:
Original sales order sheet, window sticker, Proteco Plate, Owner's manual with the nifty evelope that the dealers give you. It has Positraction, and a lighter delete.

I'll post pictures tomorrow.
