5 1/2" alternator diameter

My bracket for my alternator is 5 1/2 inches, I need a higher amp alternator, but they are 160 bucks from AutoZone. Any other viable solutions? Or do I need to find a different bracket? What about how the bracket attaches to the water pump?

Re: 5 1/2" alternator diameter

What is the problem with the bracket?

You might try pricing an alternator for an 87 with A/C. Mine has a 94 amp alternator.

Re: 5 1/2" alternator diameter

the bracket isn't big enough width wise... the alternator is wider and longer.

we're gonna try a local alternator shop, they rebuild them to higher amperage, and they are a reputable place.

Re: 5 1/2" alternator diameter

I guess we don't quite understand the question. What is the problem with the bracket. The brackets on all of the trucks I have seen are basically the same, and the alternators are the same size in most cases (whether or not they are 80 amp or 140 amp). Unless you have happened onto a monster aftermarket alternator of sopme kind.

Re: 5 1/2" alternator diameter

there are two size alternators that came on these trucks, one with a 5 1/2 case diameter, and another with a 6 3/8ths ish diameter. The bigger one is also wider between the two bolts by over an inch. The bigger one cannot physically bolt in b/c the bracket is too narrow for the bolt holes on teh bigger one. Autozone lists a 100-amp alternator that is the smaller size, but it is over 200 dollars.

We're just gonna throw the old crappy one back on today so I am not vehicle-less for the week until I can find something.
