Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
For those of you that dump it before the rear wheels or rear axle, how is the road noise? I do a lot of highway driving, along with a lot of local.

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
mine are dumped right after the turbo mufflers, and right before the diff. sounds great. a little too loud, draws too much attention....especially the cops, had a sheriff call the house once asking who was driving the chevy, telling me to slow down...thing is i was never speeding- just opened the secondaries barely, im assuming to him loud=fast...oh well...enjoy

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
Having th exhaust dumped in front of the axel is horrible after a week. The sound is much better if the exiting point is out side the body.

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
I agree with 72mario, plus if you dump the pipes toward the ground it kicks up dust around the truck.

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
Mine aren't straight out the side but angled to exit right before the rear bumper.

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
I have 2 1/2 inch Rams with 2 1/2 exhaust tucked up inside the frame. Flows thru Magniflow mufflers and kicked out just in front of the tires. I want to redo the exit area and come thru the side panels of the short wide bed. Sound? Great and not so loud you can't hear your stereo but a nice rumble.

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
Like this guys??
I did it to my 72 Longbed, just got it out of paint a few weeks ago, I havent started the exhaust yet. Just finished putting on headers. I got the idea from Stacy on Trucks, like a few guys were talking about. Cut out the body with a air nibbler. I have the steel plate/ring made to go around the opening to give it more flair, I will probably chrome it and put smooth SS hex bolts like he did on the Trucks show. Making the steel plate was an experience, I had finished up grinding the outside edge and was wire brushing it on a 1/3HP bench grinding wheel when the dang wire brush grabbed it and slung it back at me at about 100MPH and hit me right in the forehead above my eye. Cut me down to the skull and I had to have 5 stiches, looked just like Frankenstein. NOW i use a complete face shield. You live an learn. Sorry about the poor pictures, its in the garage and not much light, when I get it running I will take better ones. |

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
Check them out at www.stainless-specialties.com. Mine is the rolled oval tip. You can get them in 2, 2 1/4, 2 1/2 or 3". They are 304 polished SS and are of great quality....they are $129.00 a pair. I think Stacy used some from Corsa, but I could never find them....I actually like mine better.
I am worried about the noise that an exhaust might make at this location. I put dynamat material on the inside & outside of the door and everywhere else to hopefully keep the noise down. I havent yet decided on a muffler, I want to tone it down but keep the flow. |

I just put Dyno-max headers with bolt on flow-tech purple hornies glasspacs, and it is LOUD! Muff tips end about midway under my cab.

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
Here's a couple pics of mine. Everything is tucked inside the framerails. I used the ECE Xmember and had a H pipe installed. The truck has a 3.5 front and 6" rear drop. The tubing is 2.25" aluminumized pipe. Flowmasters are making the noise. |

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
I don't like the dump before the rear diff. either. My 66 chevelle is currently like that, but will be changed soon. The dump before the diff. blows dust all over the trunk and rear bumper of my car. If you have a good clean paint job, especially black, it will make all of that dust staticly adhere to the bedsides and bumper and the rearend of your truck.

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
I've been thinking it out some more, and I think I'm going to do it like an AAR cuda or Challenger TA had, where it comes outside the body just before the rear wheels at an angle. I'll have angle cut stainless tips there so it looks OK, and gets the dust and crud away from the paint a bit. Anyone ever used this setup and can tell me anything about getting dirty or road noise?

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
I saw a '66 that routed the pipes like the AAR, but he used a twin tip like a '70's Trans Am that was turned down. You only saw the tips and it looked great. I am planning something like that.

Re: Exhaust Exit Location???
my exhaust comes out of headers, and in one side into a 15" glasspack, and the other a 12" glasspack, into about 18 more inches of pipe, and both pipes end just before the end of the cab. Illegal? Yes. Do I care? No. Can you remotely even hear yourself thinking when that thing is roaring at 4000+ RPM? NO! It is one loud truck, I'll guarantee you that. Oh yeah, and for your info, I didn't do the exhaust. That was a P.O. thing. You'd understand and find it perfectly normal if you ever met the guy, and looked over everything on this truck.
