You need lots of torque to launch this heavy brick outa the hole. i would go with a 383 or a 400.
I have a 400 I lan to build upp one day...onless I can get my grubby mits on a 500 Caddy. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. I think so too,383 or 406. Im runnin a 383 with edelbrock rpm top(alittle less cam for tork),CompXE 268. Its got plenty to get the old longhorn movin, but you can pull a little more with a 406(bigger bores will let it breath better). You wont have a problem winding either 1 6000 plus ,if built properly. I try to shift around 6000,but have seen it go 7200(brain fade....I need to pay attention!)........69 longhorn.
