Wink Sun Tach

This might get bumed off cause it is kinda off topic, but still a cool thought for a tach option for our trucks. It would also be a period correct aftermarket accessory ( kinda like a Muntz 8 track).
I see the vintage RC70s and such on e-bay, but I would be way hesitant to buy a tach that worked when it was removed but no gurantee now . I got a bad taste after buying a radio for my truck off e-bay that the seller gave a similar description of condition.

Is there any source for refurbished Sun vintage tachs? I mean the ones from late 50s and the 60s in the chrome pots . Some had senders that were different depending on engine, and I guessa theyb took a battery or something like that??? Deffinetly nostalgia rather than high tech.

Any sources at all are appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Sun Tach

If you have your heart set on a vintage Sun tach, check out http://www.williamsons.com/ , they specialize in Sun tachs and repair them as well. They can also convert the two piece tachs with the sending unit to solid state so you don't need the obsolete mercury batteries. Just another option for anyone going this route...

Re: Sun Tach

Ive seen the mooneyes tachs selling NEW on ebay for @$100. Ive heard buying from mooneyes direct can be REAL slow sometimes. Seriously cool tach for sure...

BTW, an underdash 8-track is a great idea. Im gonna have to hunt down an old craig powerplay or something for my truck now. Thanks for the idea!...corn

Re: Sun Tach

I went to the williamson web site. Does anyone happen to know how much one of the rc sun tachs cost through these guys?? I tried to contact by the feedback request for reply form and I couldn't get it to send.. I guess I might give them a call. The real deal sure looks cool.

Re: Sun Tach

I know this post has been here a while but I thought I would add a pic of my vintage tach. The brand name is Star. I'm sure it's not high dollar or rare but I thought it looked period correct for my truck. I can't really see it while driving without making an effort, but I think it adds to the old feel of things. This was already in the truck mounted in this location when I got my pickup and I just left it there.
