Cab removal

I just removed the cab on my 69 K10,it was a pain in the a**.I will never remove one that way again.I have another cab I am going to use so I was
not gentle with it.I tore up the floor a little and dented it a little getting
it on the trailer.I need a way to remove the cab off the other truck without
tearing it up.I will still have the glass in it when I remove it as well as
other stuff so it will not be all apart when it is moved.Any ideas?

The fewer parts on it, the better. A stripped cab is 540 pounds...start adding doors and glass and seat and column... it'll get heavy quick.
4 full grown adults can do a stripped one fairly easily... if a couple of them are burley guys, that'll make it better.

I took a couple of those 2" wide truck rachet straps and went right throught the windows and used a chainfall in my barn and it worked awesome!

if i email someone pics can they post them?,somebody want to?Oh and longhorn the cab aint that heavy with half of a floor and lots of rust.I will and did have,gas tank,seat,belts,and electronics out just mainly the wheel was left.The doors were off also,as the cowl and some other stuff.

Some of US have dammaged cabs like that... looks like you got lucky.

someone on here a while back had pix of a unit made out of 2" box tubing that fit on a cherry picker that woked real good

Ok.Trying to accomplish cab swap in a 30x40 building with a 15 ft ceiling.

I used a 2x4 as seen here. I had the windows out. I believe you coulld use a 4x4 and go through the doors if you didn't want to take the windshield out.

Definitely take the doors off first. They are heavy.

i also used a picker through the door like that last pic, but i bolted chain to the seat mounts on the floor...with those 4 in,it was cake to lift off without fear of moving it and having it fall off the boards or other such jacking blocks.

We have used some 2x4's nailed together with rubber on them in the form of a rectangle...........Have small notches in the ends to sling it to the loader bucket............Crank the windows down, stick it through, sling it to the loader, pick it up carefully, and off it is.........Nothing is ruined.

Of-course on junk cabs, we just put two slings through the cab with the windows down and do the same thing.

I'd never use anything other than a loader, you have way better control of the whole process.

I took an modified a design I saw here on the board. It works off you engine hoist and will work with glass in or out and is very stable. It can also be used for lifting off beds. I will have some Do-It your self plans availble soon. One nice part is it will all slide inside it self for easy storage when not in use. It is fully adjustable for any standard cab!

What a difference a welder and some steel makes. I did about the same thing with plywood and 2x4's.
I liked that idea of the seat mounts but doesn't it tilt toward the front because of the front end weight bias?

Did I mention I had a little fire problem.The torch caused a little fire on the frame and the underside of the cab.Burnt the cab mounts,they burned for a long time.
Tomorrow if I feel like it I will remove the radiator and support and
pull the engine and tranny to sell.

cherrypickers are your best friend. did this last week after one of the southeastern boys (alabama or mississippi member) recommended this setup - i want to say it was Bill (palf70step?)

See the pictures on that page - i used a realty sign with a 2x4 and a small shim to make a solid bar across it - you'll notice all my windows are in, the doors are on (towels are critical to use), steering column is out, the A/C or fan/heat system is out...tank is out, seat is out...i had no problems at all. Be sure to disconnect the ground strap and unbolt the cab mounts first (there is a ground strap right by the front pass. side mount).

I used a tractor, a little bit excesive but it worked great.
