Hey Guys, found yer Site through recommendations of friends. i have a '68 C10 longstep. i'm planning on swapping cab & front clip to a 70 shorty chassis. i found this thread on cab removal: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=196293 cool info... i'm wondering if i can get a few pointers on the bolt removal... do i need to remove the cas tank to get to the rear cab mount bolts ??? i see a bolt head underneath thr cab, but no nut... i'd like ta hit them with some liquid wrench... the fronts i see the nut side is down... is the head of the bolt under a cover plate in the cab ??? i have my carpet (rubber mat) up and i don't see a bolt head... maybe i need to look closer ???

also, please... the front of the shorty is discs... 5 lugger. my differential is a 6 lugger. i'm thinking of having rear axles redrilled for 5x5 bolt pattern to match front... question... i'd like to get a recommendation on a rear disc set up... i'm thinking of trying to locate a 79-81 Caddy DeVille rear disc set up for my 68/70 combo... any thoughts about this ???

and here's a shot of my 68, it may look rough... but it's in pretty solid shape. i've owned it for about 15 years

it's gonna be a 327, M20 4 whl-dsc... lowered....

Welcome to the board from central ohio...who refered you to us?
It's been a few years since I pulled a cab, so I'll let some one else answer that, but as far as the rear goes, your 70 may have the wide (early 70 and older were narrow, late 70 and up were wider) if it is, then simply snaggin the axle shafts out of a 5 lug truck would net you the 5 lug bolt patter. (don't forget to grab the drums too)
As for disc brakes on the back, onless you are just going for the bling factor, you'll get minimal performance for maximum dollar on that swap. The money would be way better spent upgrading to bigger and/or better front brakes.

just un bolt the rear bolts from the bottom
the nut on top are weilded in place

the fronts are a regular nut and bolt

10-4... you don't think a soaking or 2 of liquid wrench would be required ???

i'll be looking at this tomorrow

i'll prolly have this thread all screwed up here with all my questions... is it possible to shorten a long stepside bed to be proper on a shorty frame ??? it's a wooden bedded truck which needs total replacement... can this be done or do i need the shorty sides ???

on mine, the front bolts were welded to the floor, and had a nut under the truck, and the rears were a regular nut and bolt. here you can see 1 of the front bolts countersunk into the floor. this one is a replacement so it's not welded. pb blast the heck out of the nuts and get a long half inch ratchet or breaker bar for this job.

Instead of liquid wrench, get some PB Blaster.... 10 times better than the WD 40 or liquid wrench stuff.

with the pb blaster, that stuffs works great. I used a battery impact on mine and they came right out (except for the one that the weld broke where it was welded to the floor but the head of the bolt was half gone and I wound up cutting it off with a grinder)

Welcome to the board, I can't help with shortening a long step bed, there was a thread about shortening a fleet bed a while back, I would think it would be easier to shorten a step bed then a fleet bed though.

I haven't done either.

Sell the long step,someone probably looking for one and they are a little
rare.My truck had one but long gone,looking for one but someone else probably is looking for one and with that money buy a factory shortbed.

prolly a better idea... but when have we ever been smart about our hobby ???

i have a 70 shorty frame i'm gonna swap the 68 cab and front end onto... there's no drivetrain in it right now... it had a 350 w/3-onna-tree. gonna be a 350 w/M20... the frame's all painted purdy like, the 350's rebuilt on a stand, the Muncie's sitting next to the Flyer's TKO600. i found a body mount kit at LMC i'm gonna order...

i've got the time and stupidity ta do it... i know i'd maybe be smarter ta start with a better beginning... but as i said... whoever said i was smart ???

Don't call LMC quite yet, look on linefor the same kit... there is a list of vendors somewhere here who help support this board, and most likely, they can get your kit cheaper... pluss they'd get it right when they ship it to you.
