Radio opening in dash
Of course, my radio opening has been somewhat hacked for some PO to instal a Sparkomatic or something stereo, and I have a couple of stock radios and hopefuly will get one working for the truck. I need from any of you some kind of diagram/ sketch/ callit what you may , dimensions of what the opening SHOULD be . Mine is for the most part not too bad but some good numbers hhere would realy help. A printable template would be the cat's meow!!!!!!!

Re: Radio opening in dash
seriously? just go to the junkyard. any local pull-a-part will have at least one 67-72 truck you can trace a template off of. honestly, if the dash sucks or you can find one that's torn up or rusted, take a sawzall and cut that part of the dash out and take it with you, just tack weld it into yours.

Re: Radio opening in dash
Hey....where you located? I have a center section that I will GIVE you and you can just trim off what you need and weld her in (free doesn't upset the rules and doesn't have to be in the parts section, right?). PM me if you are interested.

Re: Radio opening in dash
Well, it would be after work before I can measure, then Monday before I can post the dimensions (only online at work)

Putter, If You're Giving That Thing Away, I'd Definitely Be Interested In Repairing Mine. Let Me Know If You'd Consider It.

Re: Radio opening in dash
tell you what - since nobody else has responded, i'm going to try to go home, hold a tape measure up to the dash and take a picture. would that suffice?

Give me a few minutes and I will do what shifty suggested. I didn't realize that you were still looking for the measurements.

Re: Radio opening in dash
distance form center of left hole to center of right hole seems to be exactly 6¼"
here are some supporting photos: http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/radio1%20001.jpg http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/radio1%20002.jpg http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/radio1%20003.jpg http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/radio1%20004.jpg it may look like the measurements are out of whack b/c the tape measure is off, but I did everything in my power to hold it accurately on one side and shoot dead on the mark of the measure on the other - because i shot from the side with the mark, the other end of the tape looks off center - it ain't. hope this helps. sorry nobody else could come through for you sooner i still say you should go hack one out @ a junkyard!

Re: Radio opening in dash
Excelent work Shifty!!! That should get the Job done. Hacking one out might be an option. However I have only to fab back in the material between the rectangle and the outside edge of the holes. I have really sharpened up my welding skills lately, so cutting and fitting the metal will be the hargest thing to do.
/ Thank you all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
