Can I get a helping hand on this. Ive heard good and bad things on changing the fuel filter on the fire wall . And well now that the weather is a little warmer Id really like to change the filter .

1984 GMC Long Bed 6.2L Snap in place filter to fire wall.

Bleed and fill directions .

1. Get truck warmed up. You don't want it to be hard to start.

2. Remove old filter

3. Put new filter on.

4. Crank the truck for like 10 seconds at a time, with 1 minute between cranking until the fuel system gets bled. Make sure your batteries are good and charged, it will take about 10 cycles before the truck will run again.

You will hear all sorts of other methods. You can try opening the vent (plastic valve at the top of the filter) and putting a rag on the fuel filler and using like 2 psi to force the fuel into the filter or if you have switched to an electric lift pump just run that to prime the filter. There will be other ideas too but what I've given has worked for me lots of times.

Jusl like El Gracho said. But!! Pre-fill or pre soak the new filter, in diesel, before you install it. Cuts way down on the cranking time.

Also, Not a bad idea to install a water separator type Racor or Dahl filter before the factory filter. Much easier to replace and cuts down on factory filter replacement.

Well that all sounds great.Like you said theirs lots of ideas on doing this. Thinking ahead here if air gets to the injection pump their is no lube and may hurt the injector itself .Thats when I thought I was to crank it till fuel came out the top then screw the bleeder shut and should be good.

In your step do I make sure it dont start inbetween the 10 crankings. My truck starts really easy.

O and I didnt change the filter last time the garage did it.Thats why I was asking. The guy acted if I did this wrong it would be over 800 to replace injector assembly.
