Post Transmission Conversion

Alright guys it's getting to be time where i'm lookin at this one. I've got my 69 with the 396bb and a th400. truck is 2wd with the 2 piece driveshaft. it's got the HO72 (eaton, corporate etc.) rear end and is only lowered in the front due to new disc spindles. i might drop the rear a litle bit later for stance but i dunno yet really. I want to put a 700r4 from bowtie or jet in this thing and i think i need the tranny (duh), a tv kit, and the crosmember needs to be moved back 2" according to the folks at jet. I know the driveshaft will have to be redone so i was thinking maybe go to a 1 piece and just remove that carrier piece in the center?

What 1 piece shaft will work with that tranny and what other things am i forgetting? Ohh and i dont have a welder but almost all hand tools and power tools, can i do this job myself?
Thanks for the help.
Greg

Putting it in is no problem. Move the crossmember back 2 inches or wherever it needs to be and just bolt it up. The shaft I used for mine was off a 75 chevy truck and it was just the right length. I removed the carrier bearing and cut the mount off at the frame. You will notice that if you have a load on, you will still bump the drive shaft on the center divider if you hit a hard bump. Other than that, its all real easy. Jeff.

you wil have to have a driveshaft welded, find one out of a verhicle like a 73-up truck or big car and have the correct yokes welded ot both ends of the shaft and where they need to be in order to make the shaft the correct length that you need, the tailshaft yoke needs to be shoved into the tranny tail about halfway in

you will need tape measure and junkyard to do shaft hunting in, make sure you get one that has same diameter tubing at the ends as the yokes for the th400 and the h052 axle

wil be smart idea to have shaft balanced after cutting and welding at a driveline shop if such things exist there, or you can have one built at a driveline shop, lots are findable on the net, dont ignore the 4x4 shaft shops, they can make one however need it to be made from scratch

good luck
