I have decided to convert one of my 72 3/4 4x4'sto a dump bed. Who has one, what brand and what do you like/dislike? Tell me all you can.

Re: want info/who has a dump bed?

I am looking for a complete setup. Flatbed and all. I have a wood bed on the 72 and it will never hold up to a hydraulic dump.

Re: want info/who has a dump bed?

This info may be of no use to you at all;
A few weeks ago on TRUCKS! they did a dump conversion on an old F-150 using the factory fleet side bed. This kit they used places a8 foot tall or so air bag under the front of the bed, and a hinge at the back. When deflated, the truck looked totally stock, except where Stacey David painted every thing a gay yellow color (or if it came this way, he didn't subdude it). This kit was pretty cool for it's lack of added weight... I'd amigine the whole kit weighted a 150 - 200 pounds at the most, and no hyd crap to mess with and leak all over your drive way.
This would be the ultimate for some one who would be useing it for personal use... not on a daily basis.
he tested by WAY overloading the truck with a ton of dirt/topsoil, drove it onto a field and hit the button. It wasn't real fast, but it had no problems at all lifing the bed with all that soil in the back.

ROTFLMAO.............If you thought he was overloading that with that wimpy load of topsoil, I hope you never come across me on the road. About the only thing that was about overloaded was the hoist.

IMO, if you want a dump, go with a Heil masonary box.............I believe you can get the who works from them, just need to add the PTO on the tranny to drive it. They aren't really a true flatbed, but they only have sides 1' high, and you can add sideboards from there up. I got a similar setup on my 1-ton, and I really like it, but it isn't quite as nice as the Heils I've used.

I believe you can still get small stakes from Omaha, they'd be ok to dump. I got acouple stakes at this place, and I don't think I'd want to dump any of them with a load without first adding a better sub-frame.............By the time your done with that you could buy a good setup already.

Either way you go, I'd want hydraulic dump driven off the PTO on the transmission..............I can't really think of any good things about an electric hoist. Most people don't like hydraulic because everyone mounts the controls along the drivers seat and they are hard to use............I always put mine under the dash and they are a dream to use.........With a stone gate, granny 4spd, and a nice big set of mirrors you can really spread limestone nice on the fly.

Re: want info/who has a dump bed?

I saved this old thread just because I knew the subect would come up.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=132629

I use mine all the time. I recently came into a '66 C30 w/ PTO dump. If you lived closer I'd make you a deal.... it's another project I don't have time for.
