big block mounts
just curious why there are two styles. i thought the cab and frames were pretty much the same on these trucks. what is diff about the 72 ones? can you use 72's on 67-71 or vice versa?

Re: big block mounts
The 72 BB motor mounts are like the later mounts, (clamshell style). The 72 frame parts can be used on the older frames and the older frame parts can be used on the 72 frames.

Re: big block mounts
If you do a search, there are a couple threads with a bunch of nice pictures showing the different kinds, from different angles - the thread that I'm in pretty much tells it all.... There's also a thread about using the parts back and forth. I'm not good at finding threads or attaching them, but I bet someone else here can do it pretty quick.... I will tell ya, that if you buy a nice set for a 72, they will set ya back close to 200.... at least they did me....

Re: big block mounts
I think he is asking WHY there are two different types (he know there are two, but WHY?) I'll try my best, the 67-71 is a two piece mount, that if it failed (and it did over time) could release the motor, ie lift and cause serious damage. Hence, the switch to a clamstyle mount that no mater what the motor mount did (failure, deterioration) the motor would not lift more than a half inch of so because the clam retains the mount bolt. Safer, simple as that.
