Fuel Octane

what type of fuel are you guys running in these old trucks? I have a stock 307 v8. I have been experiencing valve noise when accelerating in 2nd and 3rd gears. would a higer octane gas help improve this problem or could this be something else?
Thanks
rick

Re: Fuel Octane

Wait untill you are almost out of fuel, and dump 5 gallons of mid grade... if it still does it, then wait till your almost out, and pour in 5 gallons of liquid gold (hi test)

Re: Fuel Octane

You could try runiing a 180 degree stat during the warmer weather, might help a little. A stock 307 should be able to run 87 octane, they do seem to have a fair amont of compression for a stock engine. Could set timing back 2 degrees and see what happens. Around here they sell 89 octane gasohol (E10) for less than plain unleaded.
