95 350 into an 87?
Well, my stock 350 is on it's last leg. Been looking for a suitable replacement. I found a 95 350 with 66,000 miles on it. Both are TBI motors, so I know the block will go in just fine. What I don't know is if the sensors and emission stuff will work with my computer. Any differences?

Re: 95 350 into an 87?
85 might have a PCM instead of an ECM, so it can control the electronic transmission. No idea if the TBI stuff on top of the engine is the same as the earlier stuff.. Really would need pictures to see.

Re: 95 350 into an 87?
At worse, I'd probably re-use my TBI unit since it's in good shape. May even reuse my manifold or get a Eddy unit so everything looks like a stock 87.
PCM vs. ECM? I think the 95's still used a removable chip. I'll check it out though. Thanks.

Re: 95 350 into an 87?
PCM = Powertrain Control Module, ECM = Engine Control Module
PCM controls both the engine and transmission, while an ECM controls just the engine. So long as the stuff on top of the engine looks the same, and has the same connectors, chances are you'd be just fine re-using your ECM with it

Getting a heck of a deal on it, so I'll probably take it.
Thanks, Russell. I'm sure I'll be back if new questions arise!

Done this before just swap over your top unit onto the 95 manifold and change over any sensors that have diffrent plugs drop in and go. Enjoy your new found power they seem to run stronger than the older tbi motors.

Re: 95 350 into an 87?
Ive done them before too TBI is TBI. Last one I did was reverse 88 caprice 5.0 into a 94/95 blazer which the onwer swaerd was a 5.7L and it ended up being a 5.0 that somone swaped in. All was fairly the same except the oil sending unit was different and the exh manifolds since the donor came from a car. It will be a staright forward swap and you should be able to see any differences right away which there shouldent be many going from truck to truck.

Re: 95 350 into an 87?
82c10, I found this engine at Del-City Pick-up Parts. I've actually changed my mind and am getting a new crate engine. Decided that the truck will be kept for a long time, even if I get another daily driver, so a crate engine sounded pretty good to me. Getting one for $1860 from a local dealership.
