Re: help the new guy please

Why dont you wait a little while and get the whole floor that I hear everyone talking about coming out for these trucks for the cab. If you do all of the work yourself, make sure to brace up your cab before you start to cut it up. Good luck and feel free to ask me with any questions if you need help. I am a bodyshop manager, used to be bodyman and painter back in the day and have restored several vehicles.

As far as the floorboard goes I was wondering if I can get away with some sheet medal instead of using a patch floorboard panel

Re: help the new guy please

Do not be confused. There are patch panels which cover one side or the other and then there is the new Goodmark floor panel that is actually the entire floor from door to door.
(Maybe you already knew this)
It will provide all the correct lips and dents but pricey. Then again, piecing parts together is time consuming and expensive also.
This is where you know best what your abilities are and what tools you have available and what you can afford.
What I can tell youis this. If the difference between a patch that was OK and one that was going to last was some money,I would save and do it the best I could. I have spent good money to rebuild the top end of an old engine just to have the bottom end go out 3 months later, put in patch panels and cut in paint only to get an odd look a few months later and bondo bubbles, no more. I will wait and do the best panels that I can afford the first time and then enjoy it later.
But you have to do what is right for you. Good luck.

Re: help the new guy please

There are floor supports at the front and back of the cab, behind the rocker panels. That must be what you mean by outriggers. Usually these need to be repaired/replaced. The rocker panel is all one piece and the backside of it is closed in with another piece of metal unless you buy the floor patch panel, which closes it in itself, cause it is longer on the downside. Looks like you could get away with building small patch panels for what you have, but like nu2-72 said, the better you buy now, the longer it will last. Make sure you prime and paint it all, and a little POR-15 to encapsulize rust will go a long way too. Good luck and tell us what else you need.

Re: help the new guy please

Never heard of outriggers. The floor underneath has the cab mounts front and back which is where the cab mount bolts run through and it supports the floor from the inner rocker to the middle of the floor tranny hump. You could probably get by with a good full inner and outer rocker. Pull the calk out of the kick plate area and make sure it isn't rusted through there.
