Question Anybody still running 2 barrels on their V8's?

Is anyone using a 2 barrel carb on their trucks with 307 or 350's? How has your milage been? Anybody been running a 2 barrel V8 with a 700R4? That is what I am planning on doing. After I rebuilt my 2 barrel carb, performance seemed to improve enough to be adequate for daily driver, but I want to replace the TH350 with a 700R4. How has it worked for any of you?

Re: Anybody still running 2 barrels on their V8's?

My truck came with a 2 barrel. It leaked a little and had no power, but I thought my milage was ok until I started paying attention. I got worse milage with that setup than I do with an Edelbrock performer and Carter AFB.

It might have been the leak, but the performance and mpg both sucked for me.

<edit> I stil have the carb and intake if you want them. Pay shipping and they are yours.

My 1972 C/10 with a 307 2 barrel and 3 speed straight shift will get 16-18 mpg week in and week out going back and forth to work. It will do better on a longer run if you don't run over the speed limit. It has a little over 110000 miles on it and still does a good job.

Holly crappers! What gear rear end do you use? I have a 307v8 with a 2barrel and a 3 speed and 3.73 rear and I only get 14mpg.... Been planning a rear end swap or ner tranny to help.

My 350 with 3.73 and granny 4 speed got 12 to 14 on average. I get about 18 now and I drive like a jackass.

Only until I can find the time to put my new q-jet and intake on.
This is the original Holley 500 on a '68 396.

Re: Anybody still running 2 barrels on their V8's?

I only have a 283, and I still run the stock 2 jet. I have 4 wheel drive, and 3.73 gears, so not suprisingly my first calculations for milage were only 8.5 mpg. Since then, I've gotten the transfer case unstuck from 4hi, and replaced my rear u-joints so I'm expecting better in the future, but don't think it will ever make 18.

I don't have a clue what's in it. I would think it's 3.73 but not sure. It pulls good and runs at speed limit without sounding like it's going to blow up.

Re: Anybody still running 2 barrels on their V8's?

I'd think a Holley 500 2bbl would do pretty good on a 350 SBC or smaller. I have one on my v6 and it seems to work really really good.
