Re: whats the best sound deadner?

Your about to get alot of different opinions

I just made my second purchase of Fatmat. The stuff worked excellent on my 69. I put in doors, double layered the floors and did the firewall(inside). Sooooo quiet and solid. Doors shut solid. I bought more for my 77 k5 and Honda.

Re: whats the best sound deadner?

I've been using a product called Edead. Bought it on Ebay...no pun intended. It's made by Elemental Designs. Reasonable price and a nice product. It is a lot less expensive than some of the others although it is thin. I put it in both my trucks, my VW and my wifes Nissan Sentra....it made a huge difference in all of them.

Re: whats the best sound deadner?

some of the commercial stuff can get rather expensive. what i have heard of and plan to do is get some of the roof fix panels from home depot or lowes. you can get a roll of 6inx16ft for about $15. its paper covered self adhesive black rubber on one side and foil backing on the other. peel and stick. some brand names is "peel n seal" or "quick roof"

I think I used about 80 sqft when I did my floors and doors with brownbread.

Re: whats the best sound deadner?

I dunno, I've been thinking about this for some time now. Don't you think it will be a breeding ground for rust under the stuff?

Re: whats the best sound deadner?

you're looking at getting a lot of opinion. the best thing to do with buying sound deadener is decide on a budget and purchase what you can. "Brown Bread" is cheap and effective from what I read, Dynamat is great for acoustical noise killing and it used on most competition audio vehicles. there are lots of other options out there.

Re: whats the best sound deadner?

I plan on laying down a good corrosion inhibitor, like Corrosion X or LPS 3 Rust inhibitor, under the sound deadener and then soaking the felt pad that goes under the rubber mat and then the mat.
Does this sound okay to you guys or will it just smell for the next 5 years????

Re: whats the best sound deadner?

I just installed 50 sq ft of fatmat off of ebay (100sq ft for $130 to my door), as I was installing it I have to agree that it seems alot like the stuff home depot/lowes sells for fixing roofs....maybe there is some difference maybe not.
I plan to also do my 73 VW van & if I need more than the other 50sq ft I have (likely) then I will go to home depot.
I have to say that the fatmat installed easy and even without jute/rubber mat or door seals I can tell a huge difference.
It will be interesting to see if it helps with the arizona heat.
enjoy

Re: whats the best sound deadner?

yeah it seems that it is tar-ish not really possible to reposition unless you barely had any contact first touch. Heat doesn't seem to bother this stuff per other folks, I was worried about melting but no one ever noticed this.
Amazing difference...I just keep going out to the truck and slamming the door!
enjoy
