Re: GM Parts Direct

i bought a fuel pump for my 99 astro from them and the price was very good. if i remember correctly the shipping kinda snuck up on me...was very expensive, but i still saved some bucks over buying from the dealer.

Sure can. For whatever reason, the guy that I bought my truck from used an OE on one side, and a Tiawan-made on the other side. Since they were both put in at the same time, it'll be interesting to see how they hold up. So far after two winters, both seem to be holding up equally well.

EDIT: I'm a dope and forgot I wasn't in the 73-87 forum, so none of what I just said has any value. Very interesting that GM still offers inner fenders for something that old!

Re: GM Parts Direct

gmpd.com has some shady shipping prices and calculations.

I prefer www.partszoneonline.com for new GM parts.

But their online catalog only goes back to 1980. Is there something I'm not seeing?

Call or email them, they are VERY helpful and easy to reach, unlike GMPD

they are a GM dealership just like GMPD, they all have access to the same parts/info

Mabye he can help us understand why they have this shipping charge policy (the only one like it I have ever seen on the internet)
Quote:
Why does shipping and handling fee seem so high?

Gmpartsdirect.com sells parts near published dealer cost plus a percentage for a shipping and handling fee. This fee is not actual shipping charges only.
Example:
Two gauge clusters for the 99-2006 GM Fullsize trucks
1 - 89007468 Silverado SS cluster - price: $364.00 - cost to ship: $95.99
2 - 15073350 Escalade cluster - price: $225.00 - cost to ship: $49.67

Same size/weight/etc part, just over twice as much to ship the more expensive item? Poor business practice IMO. It has been this way for at least 4 years or so...

BTW - P&G (www.partszoneonline.com) sells the same item for $223.74 and charges only $12-$13 to ship it

Re: GM Parts Direct

GM still offers a lot of stuff for early pickups. Can still get rocker panels 67-72, grill surrounds for 69-72, grills for 69-72, headlight bezels for 67-72, etc. If you have and assembly manual punch the part numbers in at GM Parts Direct and you can see what is still available. I just bought a 70 surround and grill. The price was a little over what a reproduction sells for.
