ok guys,
i know this is a simple question, but since i am putting stuff back on i wanted to just double check... i am believing that the neg. batt. cable gets bolted to the frame??? i have a '72 chevy truck i am wanting to bolt the cable back to the fact. location, but i can't remember where exactly it was bolted to could someone tell me where on the frame the neg. bat. cable goes to the frame? i think it is the hole next to the curled up lip part on the pass. side frame.. next to the lower water hose. could someone please let me know....

I think that hole in the curled-up lip on the frame is for a hold-down that clamps the positive battery cable in place as it runs down to the starter.
My ground strap from the negative terminal is attached directly to the cylinder head. It might not be the original location, but someone else who knows this stuff hands down --like CPNE--will jump in and clear it up for you...

I think mine was bolted to the manifold.

Yes it is grounded to the motor- ex. or in . manifold or to any bolt on the head (bolt on the backside of alt . or ps. pump. any of the above will work.

i think now that i have been thinking about it... it was bolted to the alt. bracket. which i dont have now because of the serp. setup. but i am wondering if it can be hooked up to the frame???? i think that if i could hook it up to the frame it wouild look cleaner. but i can also hook it to the ac comp. bracket too i guesss. any other thoughts on a good place to connect the neg batt. cable???

Mine is hooked to the frame just bellow the battery tray.

You should have a back up also, not just one. Or the current will find a weak link over time and fry your batt. Ask me how i know..

You can hook it to the frame. Make sure you have a real good ground cable connected from the engine/trans to the frame too though. You can put it wherever suits you, as long as it's there.

I would hook it directly to the motor, just to be sure the starter has a good ground.

The bolt hole directly inline with yhe fuel pump rod is my choice. Then make sure you have a strap or at least # 6 AWG connection to the frame for all of your lights, solenoids, etc to work

remember in a DC system the path is - to +..electrons are negatively charged and are attracted to the + side of the battery..have good grounds and plenty of them.i have a - battery cable with a large cable and small pigtail..cable to engine(head) and pigtail to fender.

Best bet would be one from batt to frame, and one from motor (say the cylinder head) to the same spot on the frame. That way all the other stuff on the truck doesn't have to pull it's ground thru the engine, then the frame, that have a direct connect to the frame, and so does the engine.
