Egr?

I am in the midst of freshening up my small block and just need an intake and a carb to finish it all up. I was about to order a edelbrock performer air-gap intake, and was faced with a question I could not answer. I was given the option of a EGR and non-EGR intake. I went on the net and tried to find what I could about this little detail and could only turn up the function of a EGR valve. What I need to know now is what is the determining component that will tell my if my engine is EGR equipt or not? BTW my truck is a 72'. Thanks

if it is the original engine, then no.
If there is a chance of you wanting top use this intake on a future vehicle that may have the EGR, then you can get the EGR intake, and make a block off plate for it, it may even come with a block off.

Thanks for the quick reply Longhorn Man. I was just concerned when reading up on this option when I saw it was introduced in 1972. I'll probably end up just ordering the non-EGR version. I doubt I will be transfering this intake to another vehicle.

I am 99% positive it was only on cars, not light trucks.

I would prolly buy the EGR version and block it off,you may want to upgrade later,and it will be easier to sell hte EGR model.

I would stay with LonghornMans train of thought. In addition to being correct the non-EGR is better(cleaner)looking than with a block off plate. One less thing to worry about - Bob

EGR is an emissions deal, and if you leave it open, it's a giant vacuum leak on the intake manifold. Before I put my Edelbrock intake manifold on, I took and traced a pattern from the original (engine is from a 70's-86 Chevy) intake manifold's EGR port on a small square of gasket board stuff and cut a plate of metal, drilled three holes and bolted it on. worked fine, but if you cover an EGR up, there's always the possibility of a vacuum leak.

shortened down: don't get an EGR manifold. who needs emissions anyways? If I took my truck to California, their emissions guys would shoot me on sight.

I live in Calif, and I dont smog either of mine... they are exempt. If I had some of the stuff that is under my hood in a later model, Then there would be issues with the "emissions guys".

haha, yeah, I suppose Calif. emits old vehicles from that stuff. still, they'd probably kill me if they saw my 84 Caprice (a.k.a. Fog Machine, Mobile Chevrolet Fogging Machine, the Mosquito Fogger, the Big Blue Cloud, etc) which burns..."some"... oil when you get on the peddle...
