Blazer Hatch/hydralic cylinders?/T handle relocation?
Anyone ever tried puting cylinders in place of the stock metal sliders? I'd like to do that.
Also I'd like to relocate the T-handle to the inside is this possible? Or has anyone done it? I thought I remember seeing one done like that.

I rember a post about this about a year ago,here or on coloradok5.com.Anyway I though there was a clearance issuse between top and the hatch.
I've never seen the t-handle relocated to the inside.It would be trick but kind of a pain-in-the-@ss to open.

There's got to be a better way than the metal slides.

Yea it would be nice to cruise around with the back hatch open.Hydrolic lifts would allow that.
I did that ONCE when I first got my Blazer,I learned REAL quick(at the first bump) you can't do that.The hatch came down and caught the bottom edge of the hatch on the spare tire that's mounted at the rear of the truck.CRACK......look back.....sh!t!!! The hatch was near perfect before that.

There's got to be a way to put cylinders on the hatch. It may require custom brackets
But still not a good idea to leave hatch open when driving. The fiberglass is to weak, and Hatchs far to expensive, and rare!

Awhile back, I contacted an engineer with a lift support company.
He looked at my diagram and measurements and responded that they could not make a support to fit the stock mounting points because the closed position is to short to allow enough travel to get to the full open position. I asked him if it was possible to piggyback 2 short ones to make enough travel . He said it could work, but the engineering would make a short production very expensive. The supports needed to hold the weight ( their stock on the shelf ) would be about $40( if my memory is correct) each and 4 would be needed. Then try to connect them together and custom fab brackets and hope it all fits between the hatch and topper- I kinda dropped the idea after speaking with the guy. |
