Re: VooDoo Cams by Lunati
Everyone I've talked to seems to think they are superior to the comps. I'm going with a voodoo for my 396.

Re: VooDoo Cams by Lunati
I need to vent some here
The new Comp 280 cam and the new Comp 270 cam I installed in my 454 both sounded like SH!T after warming up. No matter how you adjusted from 1/4 turn to 2 turns and yes the lifters are turning, the oil pressure and feed are excellent and no, there not flat. I even had the lifter bores redone because I couldn’t find anything else to blame it on. After talking to a lot of different people in the machine shop business (I was in the bis for 16 years myself) the first question they would ask is what brand cam do you have? When I said Comp they said “there’s you problem”. I have never heard a hydraulic cam sound so loud, like it wanted to jump out of the motor. Comp Reps told me this is now normal. I say BS. After the customer service run around and telling me this is normal I will never use a Comp product again as long as I live. I’m going to change to the VooDoo soon. I have to get back motivated. I’ve parked the truck since all this has been going on for the last 6 months or so. I’ll let you all know how it turns out. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest, I feel a bit better now

Re: VooDoo Cams by Lunati
Mike Nutt, man I love the valve covers, where did u get them from and are they painted or powder coated. I have a 396 out of an 1969 chevelle in my SS. I used the 268EX it's a stout cam until about 3500 to 4000rpm, I later blew the top of a piston to much compression. I swapped to an Comp 292S solid lift camshaft it was too much for the street, so I swapped in a 274XE it was the best proforming cam as far as street/strip, not bad on gas as you might think. But I ran into a problem the #7 exhaust lobe rounded of the lifter was concaved, I had valvetrain noise that would not go away no matter how many times I adjusted the valves. So very pissed I took the cam to Comp here in Memphis. They gave me full credit for the cam and swapped to a 282S, that I have not gotten a chance to break in the cam started walking hitting my timing cover even tho comp said the problem was with endplay at the distributor and camshaft gear. I spent 100 bucks on new distributor and it still was walking. So I will be swapping my timing chain for a single roller and a cam button. This is the last comp cam for me I will try a voodoo next. Lots of people at the tracks in at Memphis Motorsports are using them. JMO

Re: VooDoo Cams by Lunati
I just looked at the Voodoo 268 for my 283. I'm trying to find a replacement for the Crane Blazer can I used to have when it was a manual shift tranny. Switched to another milder crane cam and rhodes lifters when I put the automatic in. I didn't have a stall converter so I needed a better idle. That was a mistake though. I lost so much power, its pitiful.
So now the Crane blazer has been discontinued. They don'y have the same grind anymore, but a couple that are close. The Lunati 268 was close to the same duration, but has more lift by about 10-15 thousands. The crane Z-274-2 and H-278-2 are the closest match and will probably be what I get. I'm running 1.6:1 roller rockers with it, think I'll stick with the rhodes lifters and get a stall converter. Then recurve the HEI or replace it. If that doesn't wake it back up, then I'm getting a turbo and quit screwing around. HG

Re: VooDoo Cams by Lunati
I've heard lots of complaints about Comp Cams in big blocks lately. I've also noticed not too many people like them in certain Ford engines either. On the other hand, I've never heard the first complaint about them in small block Chevy engines and Small Ford engines(289,302). I think Comp does all their R&D for the most commonly built engines(sbc). If I ever go with a BB, I think I'll go with a Howard's cam or a VooDoo cam.
