Stereo question
Hey everyone,
I own a 94 Chev Ext cab. What I want to do is hook up a pair of outdoor speakers I have in the bed of the truck for when I'm at the drive in. I've got an aftermarket Sony deck installed. What I need is some kind of switch to turn on the speakers. Because the speakers have a positive and negative wire, I need a switch with two inputs and two outputs, or four of each if I want to hook both speakers up to the same switch. Does anyone know where I can get a switch like this, or have any other ideas how I can hook this up? Mike

Re: Stereo question
My guess is that you're not too worried about quality on this. So why not just go with a single pull switch? Have your negatives going out to the speakers. Have a positive going to one side of the switch. On the other side have a positive that goes out, T's off, and then goes to the speakers. Wouldn't this work? The switch is open, the circuit is broke. When you close the switch, the circuit is completed.
This is, of course, assuming that you are utilizing just one channel of your stereo. (Ex: Left rear channel)

Re: Stereo question
I was trying to go for both channels as I have both speakers. The toggle switch I have has inputs for both a negative and a possitive input, so I know I can just use two of those switches and it will work fine. I was just hoping to use one switch. Now, if I were to put both a left and right positive and left and right negative to the same terminal, would I damage the speakers?

Re: Stereo question
WOW this could get complicated---Remember, you only need to switch one of the wires to each speaker. You also want to keep the wiring seperate, so as not to screw up the stereo effect. I would look at two switches unless yours is for such a thing.

Re: Stereo question
Never thought about the fact I only had to switch one wire each... good idea! That very well might work with the switch I've got.
Thanks!

Re: Stereo question
The best way to do this without frying the stereo due to low impedance would be to run both negatives to a switch, then out to the negatives. It doesn't matter how the grounds run, as long as the positives are not in series or parallel. That would change the impedance. Otherwise, hook an amp up to them and throw a switch on the blue remote wire running to it...
