Am I screwed?

The 327 I was planning on using has bad heads (not rebuildable). Do I have to go and try and hunt them down or can I use another set of heads like off of a 350 or even 305?

I was told by gramps I could use any other head but sometimes I think the Milwaukees Best gets to him!

I figured I'd go for some profesional advice befor I sink the money into this rebuild kit I planned on ordering!

Re: Am I screwed?

You can use a set for 305, unless you want to loose some compression. Any stock type SBC head will physically bolt on.
The other option would be to use a set of higher c/r pistons with a pair of 350-400 heads.

You can use 305 heads but you will lose alot of compression. 305 heads are 76cc, 327 heads are 64cc, if you can't find small chamber heads to replace the unrebuildable ones, you have to do the math & install domed pistons to compensate for the larger combustion chambers.

Re: Am I screwed?

is this true even when going oversize on the bore?

or what about jetting the carb a little different!

This sounds like its going to be a nightmare, I may just try and find a 350!

Ya I know who you are talking about! I use Lucidos, and a guy here at works wife works for Moritz. The problem is these guys want an arm and a leg for heads let alone a 327 head!

Re: Am I screwed?

Some Vortec heads should work well w/a 327 sbc. Have you considered them?

Re: Am I screwed?

Ditto on what Scoti says. I would go for a decent set of Vortec heads.

Re: Am I screwed?

leks tuder machine has 327 heads ready to bolt on except for the springs and
rockers 300.00 with a core since yours are bad 400.00. i may be able to get a better deal if we were to go together maybe like stasted above an aquantence buddy deal if were lucky. so far thats the best i can come up with. personally buying a set from some one and then rebuilding them would be about the same if not more. i will pm you my cell number to hook up if you want

Re: Am I screwed?

Theres nothing special about the 327 heads even if they were double hump heads the only advantage they would have over a set of 416 305 heads would be the valve size and the 305 heads have smaller combustion chambers and actually larger ports where it matters.

Get any set of SBC heads and they will work fine.

350 = 76CC
327 = 64CC
305 & 267 = 58CC

yes, any set of sbc heads will work, just won't run as good as if you put the smaller combustion chambered heads on
