Ideas on my exhaust placement
When I get the 454 in, I am going to rework my exhaust. I've got Dynomax headers and 2 1/2" Dynomax Ultra Flow mufflers. I will use 2 1/2" exhuast pipes with an h-pipe.
I don't like the present placement of the exhaust tip, asthestically and because it is not very protected. I'd like some suggestions on different placement. This truck is not a daily driver and I don't mind if it is loud. I don't want it like it is now, cause sooner or later I'm gonna back or drive over something and bend it. Here's how the present setup exits the truck.

I would say go stright back from the axle bend along the side of the framework for your trailer hitch with a little downturn at the end to point that exhaust out from under the end of the bed. Speaking of beds, don't forget the rhino woman, he-hee!

Can't see the back properly but how about keeping them up real high and taking them out through a cut-out in the rear plate of the bed, maybe together in the middle a bit like the Lotus Elise sports car. They'll be protected by the tow hitch and tucked up out of the way.

If you don't care how loud it is do a couple turn downs right after the mufflers.Or run it out just in front of the rear wheels. With that AWSOME looking flatbed on there I doubt you'd have a problem with fumes.

I've also seen the pipes run straight out the back, along each side of the hitch.

Mine currently turn out like yours but ahead of the rear wheels; I haven't hit anything with them yet, and mine isn't lifted any.
Of course, I plan to switch to stacks; do that, and you'll need to worry about low-hanging wires, but not trail obstacles

I'd go with in front of the rear wheels. That's the way mine is, but mine is strictly street driven.

Having seen the back I'd definitely be different and take a tank cutter to that chequer plate either side of the license plate and cut two round holes, maybe sleeve them with a short length of pipe slightly larger than your exhausts and run them through the plate. They'll be well protected and nice and high out of the way when in water or backing up off road.

LippyP's idea is cool.
A couple of chrome tips sticking through that checker plate would look awsome! MY $0.02. (CDN currency so basically worthless in USA) Trevor

I'd think about turn downs PAST the rear axle. This is not ideal, but will look OK. Actually, I like where you have it the way you have it as the best spot, but aesthetically it is lacking with your flat bed... NEVER point exhaust straight out the back in a 4x4 (any truck IMO) when you get it in the mud and you have to slam it forward and backwards to get out, you pack the exhaust full of mud and water, killing the motor. Snow applies here as well. "Real 4x4 don't run chrome baloneys" Also, straight out the back will make a sooty mess of your trailer or your load if you have a flat bed. Do you have enough room to run between the shackle reversal and the trailer hitch?

Mike C I agree with what you said if he was going to put it down by the trailer hitch but up in the bed? How deep of mud are you going through?
As for the tips, I know I didn't explain but I meant a couple of down swept tips to help with the carbon thing. And I think that chome looks good on 4X4s. (I know cheap stuff rusts) Trevor

It would sound good with a set of stacks running up behind the cab,& you wouldnt have to worry about the mud! I have plans to run my ex like that on the old flatbed. I dont remember if your bed has a hoist or not, but I plan to cut 2 holes in the floor of theflatbed, & run the stacks up & hang em on the headache rack. I wont be doing any chrome, just 3" aluminized pipe with rain caps. good luck......crazy longhorn

I had a buddy with stacks on his mid 90's 1 ton flatbed and man it gave me such a headache and that was with a stock engine. Stacks are out
Mike C - I don't think there is enough clearance to go between the shackle flip and the hitch but I will take a look. I'm leaning towards going past the rear axle, tucked up high with a slight turn down.
