Fuel Filler Location

in reference to this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=197123
how hard do you think it would be to run the fuel filler neck from the stock location to a fuel cell in back? anyone done it? if it's reasonably possible, i wish i'd thought of it

it just sounds cool to fill the fuel in the stock location, but not have the tank in the cab. can it be done? huh? huh? can it??

Re: Fuel Filler Location

Are you talking about the fuel filler on a 55 body or 67-72 body? If it's the latter you would have WAY too much hose running, it would probably be VERY slow to fill. I would recommend doing the side marker fill on a 68-72 for the rear tank, it's an easy mod and most people never notice.

Re: Fuel Filler Location

yeah, i was talking about doing it on a 67-72. i was just wondering, b/c i like the thought of a completely stock look (including the factory filler) but with modern advances/functionality (plus, i don't have a welder or any welding buddies to patch the filler hole. )

it would be a long way for the fuel to go, but i don't mind waiting at the pump. i'm just curious as to whether it could be a decent solution, and would it work? i suppose there would need to be the filler neck tube, along with the overflow tube running alongside of it? what kind of hose would i use?

'course if i wanted to maintain stock appearance, i could always just leave the filler neck and gas cap in place, as well as doing the side marker filler.

thanks

Re: Fuel Filler Location

I am pondering a simiar setup going from stock filler location routing through cab into bed into a fuel cell.

Re: Fuel Filler Location

I did the side marker fill on my SWB, and I didn't want to weld up the other hole so I took a long bolt and put it on the inside, and wire tied the cap to it. I left the gasket on, so it looks stock, but you can't get the cap off.

Re: Fuel Filler Location

This what I was talking about.

The only concern I had was the filler hose between the cab and bed .

Nope, fleetside. It's pretty easy to do on a fleetside, you just have to extend your stake pocket to hide the tube. Some have actually gotten it all to fit in the bed side, but it's tight.

Re: Fuel Filler Location

yeah, i just need to go get a welder. it'll save me in the long run. i just have to work back up to it. i had a decision to make with my collection of lowe's gift certs: a welder or a tablesaw. too many house projects looming on the horizon persuaded me to the tablesaw. i should have known better.
