40 series or super 40 flows
I am getting ready to get my exhaust done and can't decide between the flowmaster 40 or super 40 series. I was talking to a flowmaster rep at the last good guys show and he said there is no difference in performance between the two, just sound, even though the website says different. Has anyone heard the super 40's? So far those are the ones I'm leaning towards. The flowmaster website has a sound clip for both but they are on two different motors so it's hard to tell. Any advice, suggestions are appreciated. This is going on a 450 horse 383 with Hooker super comp headers.

Re: 40 series or super 40 flows
Are you going to run 2.5 or 3" exhaust? That will make it sound different as well. Depends on the sound volume in the cab that you want, too. I have listened to the sound clips as well. They all sound a lot alike. I would go with the loudest with the best flow myself. I think they were the Super 40's, That's what I will install on my 66 Chevelle with 3" pipe.

Re: 40 series or super 40 flows
I was thinking I would run 3" into the mufflers and then 2 1/2" after and dump behind the rear end but will seek advice on that too. I think the super 40's sound the best on the sound clips.

from what ive read, you need to run what the motor needs BEFORE THE MUFFLER and then you can run whatever you want afterwards. ya have to remember your setting the backpressure with the pipe size BEFORE the muffler and just expelling gases afterwards. im gonna run 2 1/2 from the header to the muffler and then 3" out the back behind the wheel. cant wait to hear my BB w/ the flows. Re: 40 series or super 40 flows
from what i've heard the super 40's are little quitter and desinged for big blocks. i have regular 40's with headers and 2 1/4" pipe one my '69. its a little quite for my taste but still sounds good. there's bad resonance from 1000 to about 1500 if i ur just crusin, but when ur on it, you don't hear it. i cruise along at about 2000+ no matter what gear im in and there's none there.
