Option code formation

I'm wondering if anyone knows why there are different formations of the option codes on the glove box door option stickers.
I have seen option stickers with 6 digit option codes starting with the figure 1, 3 or 4 and there's also option stickers with 3 digit option codes.
Does this have anything to do with the years or with the assembly plants using different systems?
I'm planning on making a sticker for my 71 Fremont built 3/4 ton as it doesn't have one.

Re: Option code formation

The Freemont plant for 1971 uses the 3 character options codes.

I would like to know what the "4" or "1" begining with each code means, and the meaning of the suffixes like "10", "20", or "AB", "CA" etc. Too bad there aren't some assembly line workers here to tell us!

In photo number 1, what is the additional text below the VIN number? With options 501 & 512 can I take it that that 67 has positraction in the front and rear axle?

In photo number 2, what's that wild wheel base number? 10 is it??? And what is the FTO number? Any idea what V78 Delete Certification is/was ?

Thanks, that's pretty much the answer I was looking for.
But I would also like to know what the additional characters mean on other option stickers.

That is just a pic that I saved from somewhere on internet and I do not know anything more about the truck.

The sticker in pic2 is from a Canada built truck that was sold new by GM here in Sweden. I believe that's why it has some unusual options, I think the V78 option has something to do with it beeing an export truck. It says IN in the W/BASE field, but I can't tell you what it means.

Re: Option code formation

That 3rd pic is of a GMC (my old one) so kinda overlook that, they did things funny.
I've always just assumed it was the plant and the local managment.
like when you wright out Tach.... 99% of the ppl don't care that this is an abreviation... many don't even know, so we'd say shorten it to tach instead of typing out tachometer...but there's that one annal retenive a-hole who insists that tach is not a word and wants to see tachometer typed out.

Re: Option code formation

Someone needs to come up with a master options list that would have shown up on the glove box doors, so when we add options we give it the correct code

Re: Option code formation

The FTO was factory truck order number if I remember correctly. It was the number of a truck ordered to customer specs, just not an off the lot typical what you see is what you get truck.

Re: Option code formation

I dug in my 67 data dealer book also and found that in 1967 as is the serial of the Vin roger0080 was questioning..and the data book list the option of front posi as option 9501 and the rear posi as 9512. Those odd option numbers are from the special equipment option section of the book not the normal option number section.

Maybe we got a new member to those odd number searches there roger0080

option V78 is the " Hazard Warning Switch or Emergency Disabilty, Delete"
