Dennis, OK, I see what you are asking. I think you will run into problems with the shift linkage from the shift tube to the tranny. (unless you shorten the shift tube by the same distance) When you move the column forward, you will move the shift tube and shift levers forward also. I think your friend just needs to get used to driving close the the wheel.
