84 c30 towing capacity?

Tomorrow I am going to look at an 84 C30 with an auto and a 350. Does anyone know the towing capacity on these trucks?

The truck is supposed to have some rust on the rockers and bottom of the doors, otherwise pretty decent shape, he is asking $900. Does this sound like a good deal, or am I off my rocker?

Oh, and there is a dually rear axle and wheels/tires for sale locally for $400, should I grab them and do a dually conversion?

I do believe the K30s are rated at 9000 some pounds, 12 000 some pounds if they are a dually

Re: 84 c30 towing capacity?

We used to have an '84 GMC dually, 454-4 speed, which had a GVW of 10000 pounds. I believe the SRW 1-tons had a GVW of 9200.
We used it to pull ball hitch type trailers weighing in the neighborhood of 9000 to 11000 pounds. It did pretty well, but I don't think I would have tried to pull much bigger than that. A fifth wheel trailer would pull much better.

Re: 84 c30 towing capacity?

It turned out just as I thought "too good to be true"

Frame was soft in several spots, lots of rust, busted rear springs. So the search continues for a 3/4 ton, or 1 ton that is not all rusted......oh boy....
