I have a confession to make
I have a confession to make!
My truck is really a 1971 GMC, NOT a 1970. 1) the insurance company swears up and down that it's a '71 2) 5 lug axles = 1971+ (according to other posts) 3) in relation to #2, I have discs in front, drums out back 4) trying to think of more........... At least I think it's a 1971 model!! It's going to suck when in heavy doing work on it. As far as I see, there are quite a few differences in parts/accessories between 70/71.

Post the VIN
There is someone on the board that can decode it for you. I think GMC Paul's web site has a GMC decoder. Post a pic of the Glovebox option sheet. Also if original running gear you can decode all of those numbers. Doesn't it feel good to come clean. Have Fun GMC Decoder

Just remember Canadian and US trucks do not always use the same coding for VIN #'s

That's okay Joe, I have a cab from a 1972 Chevy on my 1972 GMC, it's the only non-original piece of sheetmetal on the entire vehicle, the frame, running gear, bed....the whole nine yards, but guess what my insurance company classifies it as? They don't even care what the title says, they read the VIN plate......... go figure

CE134-1110723
That 1 equals 1971. If it were a 70, the vin would be more like: CE134-1Z50723 At least as far as my understanding of the GMC vin codes. If it were Chevy, it would be cake.

I got the year off the buddy I bought the truck from. He hadn't used the truck in a long time, and I rescued it from him before it died a miserable rusty life in the rain! I went on the year he said, UNTIL I looked at my insurance papers and it says 1971. I think I stuck with 70 for so long because it just rolls off the tongue!
It's officially a 1971.
