better than stock front suspension?

okay, so i'm getting ready to sell the reliable, great-running, noproblems excab dodge in order to fund my LS1 swap
while the engine's out, i want to re-work the front suspension. it's bone stock, '72 with disk brakes, etc. when i drive it now, it feels...unsteady. tends to walk a little, horrible cornering, and although i haven't inspected it, i would guess that there's quite a lot of wear on the a-arms and "Jesus" bolts, maybe even "wallered out" a bit.

how should i go about rebuilding this front end so that it feels more solid/modern, while still maintaining stock ride height. i don't want to slam or even lower it, but most of the components i find do just that.

i'd love to find aftermarket stuff, maybe tubular? that will be stronger/more responsive than stock. oh, and i don't want to spend a TON of cash, either.

does anyone have any suggestions? it seems i've only found info on lowered kits.

thanks!

Re: better than stock front suspension?

I would just rebuild what you have back to stock specs and add a sway bar, or go with a 73 and later front susp. They ride a little smoother and don't have the steel bushing control arm shafts like the 72 does.

Re: better than stock front suspension?

The steel bushings may be a little stiff, but they dont flex, & are good for d@mn near 1/4 MILLION miles if you grease them! Your next best would be a 73 up with urathane bushings. On the sway bar.....73-up fits, I run a 3/4 ton bar on my longhorn(inch & a quarter) if I remember correctly. That old longhorn will sit flat as h#ll @ 70MPH in the off ramp......she drifts real sweet tho When you are turnin right, & stearing left to go there......let us just say that the "white knuckles" on that teen kid was worth the fun L
